We’ve secured the trains. Now save the mail

Royal Mail plans to close Fishguard Delivery Office. Fishguard Trains supports the postal workers and petitioners who are campaigning to stop Royal Mail in their tracks.  ## UPDATE: SAVED! See below ##

Having secured a (nearly) decent rail service for the first time in a generation, it’s our duty to support the campaign to prevent Royal Mail degrading our postal service. In their circular to Fishguard residents (“valued customers of Royal Mail”), managers describe the closure (which sees postmen and women making a daily round trip to Haverfordwest before they can start delivering mail) as “modernisation” and “one of the biggest transformation in UK industry”.

We call it irresponsible.

More road miles, harder jobs, later deliveries, bigger carbon footprint. Modernisation? We think not. Royal Mail should do better in 2011.
