MPs are hastening to a recalled Parliament – some no doubt from sunny Pembrokeshire – to debate the riots.
If they taxed bankers’ bonuses at 100% … if they voted for education, education, education instead of invasion, invasion, invasion … if they stood up to tabloid publishers rather than toadying to them … if they saw that their expense scandal has made us cynical … if they worried about our increasingly unequal society …
… then we might listen to them condemning teenage rioters.
Instead, the bankers take what they like, MPs take what they like, and some kids watch and learn the apparent lesson: greed is good, so grab what you can.
